When Dallas originally debuted, it was with the intention of only being a five-episode run. Unlike the episodes in the following seasons, all five episodes of the miniseries were shot on location over a six-week period in Texas during winter months. Southfork's exterior scenes were filmed at the Cloyce Box Ranch in Frisco, Texas. Southfork's interior scenes were filmed in Dallas' Aldredge House located at 5500 Swiss Avenue. For the miniseries, Bryan Tower in downtown Dallas housed the offices of Ewing Oil.
