Dr Rey

Dr. Rey often called about the developments and sidewalk installations in a neighbourhood called Riverside Drive. This was a particularly affluent neighbourhood with a number of residents vested in any and all minor changes to the neighbourhood. Dr. Rey always referred to himself as Dr. Rey, and did this on purpose as he would call the office and pretend to be my boss' chiropractor to try and get through to speak to her. He also apparently tracked her down at a public consultation event and grabbed her arm to pull her out of a conversation with Councillor Doucette. Any calls I had with Dr. Rey he would try to pretend that he either met with my boss, or had already obtained information from City staff, or that he was calling on behalf of a different office. I had to learn about the sharp judgement and quick thinking that is needed in public engagement. It is incredibly important when dealing with members of the public to maintain the balance between empathy and openness and protecting oneself. I think the example mentioned in class about Kathleen Wynne making her security team appear in plainclothes was a good example of this as well.
