Running Club is an after-school club at Deer Creek Elementary School for Kinder thru 5th Grade Students. This club is designed to encourage kids to pursue a healthy and active lifestyle through running and walking. It is organized by the Deer Creek PTA Healthy Lifestyles Committee and staffed by our parent volunteers.

How Running Club Works:
1 . Students who are enrolled in the program will be given a name tag on a lanyard from their teacher at the end of the day on Thursday.
2. Running Club will begin immediately after school is dismissed on Thursdays.
3. Runners will go to the gym and line up by grade, and then will be checked in by one of our Running Club volunteers.
4. Runners will follow the designated course and their name tag will be stamped once a lap is completed (1 lap = ¼ mile).
5. The whistle will be blown at 3:25 to signal that runners need to complete their last lap and head to check out.
6. Each runner will then proceed back inside school, collect their backpacks, check out, and hand in their name tags before heading to their dismissal area.
7. Runners will then be escorted to their parents beginning at 3:30.

Cancellations:
Running Club will be canceled due to inclement weather or bad field conditions. Decisions to cancel running club will be made by noon of a scheduled run date.
* If the program is canceled for the day, an email message will be sent to registered parents. It is imperative that we have your correct email address.
Awards:
For every 20 laps (5 miles) that are completed students will earn a toe tag. We will also be handing out 25 and 50 mile tags to challenge our faster runners. Other awards will be handed out throughout the year based on attitude and encouragement to fellow runners.
Transportation Home:
At the end of each Running Club there will be signs with the different ways of dismissal. Please let your students know which sign they need to find at the end of Running Club each week.
YMCA (Yellow Sign): These students will be escorted by an adult to the cafeteria.
Car Rider (Red Sign): Students will be walked to the car rider pick up. Car Rider pick up is the side of the building farthest from Anderson Mill, the K-1 pick up side. We would love it if you have the name of your student in your window. This will make the process of car rider pick up a lot easier.
Walker with Parents (Green Sign): All Parents must wait at the flagpole and a volunteer will bring your student to you.
Walker/ Biker without parent (Blue Sign): We do not have crossing guards on duty after Running Club. Your child will be escorted to the front of the school and then be responsible to get themselves home. We are not accountable for your child once they leave the building. This is for 2nd-5th grade students, or younger siblings of 2nd-5th graders with approved parent permission.
Teacher/Volunteer Kids (Black Sign)- Volunteer kids will wait in the MPR until their parent is done volunteering. Teacher's kids will all be dismissed to their parent's classroom by an adult when the larger groups are dismissed.
Please wait for your students to come to you at Running Club dismissal.
DO NOT ENTER THE BUILDING TO GET YOUR STUDENTS.
*** Changes in transportation can be called into the school office before 1:30pm***
Guidelines:
Parents must pick up their children from Running Club at 3:30pm from the designated pick up area. Students who are picked up late (after 3:40pm) more than one time will be dismissed from the program for the rest of the school year. A warning email will be sent to families before a student is dismissed from the program. All the adults there are volunteers, and would like to get home to their families.
Students are expected to be courteous to other runners/walkers. Any behavior issue will be discussed directly with the student/parent. As agreed when you registered, after the first offense your student will be asked to miss the following week of Running Club. If there is a 2nd offense your student will immediately be dismissed from the Running Club with no chance to rejoin this school year. All parents need to remember that we have Kinder through 5th grade in Running Club. We expect our older participants to be good examples to our younger participants.
Running Club is a program put on Deer Creek PTA. All parents must understand that if you have any questions or concerns you will contact Deer Creek PTA and NOT Deer Creek Elementary Staff or administration.
Volunteers:
Running Club is sponsored by the PTA and relies solely on the help of volunteers. Parents will be required to volunteer at least 2 times during the year, once in the Fall (October-January) and once in the Spring (February-April). Sign-ups below.
Volunteers need to arrive at school by 2:30. Volunteers are welcome to bring siblings but please note that you are responsible for your children and they must stay with you. Bathrooms are available for volunteers and siblings.
Check-in / Check-out volunteer position: You will be assigned a grade and will be working with those students to check them in, track bathroom passes / needs during running time, and manage check-out.
Stampers: (these spots are recommended for volunteers with young children since you are beside the playground!) You will mark off each lap that students do and track their progress towards getting a toe tag!
Field Monitors: We are working hard to encourage movement on the track. You will be assigned to a designated area around the track and responsible for making sure Runners are following the rules. Please stay in your designated area and do not walk with your child, you are here to monitor all children. Also, please do not let your children and/or friends stay with you instead of walking around the track.
Door Holders: We are not permitted to prop the doors open for safety reasons, so you will hold the door open to allow students to go in and out for bathroom and water breaks.
Select the date below that you are able to volunteer!
