Study Strategies:
Resources:
Heimler's History (purchase plan): https://heimlershistory.com/ (for the free version without the note guides and MCQs go to https://www.youtube.com/@heimlershistory)
Heimler has videos, note guides, and practice MCQs (stimulus and nonstimulus based) that are completely aligned with what is learned in class. Watching his videos will help lessen your need to completely rely on the textbook (BUT STILL READ THE TEXTBOOK IF YOU WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS CLASS) because you'll already be familiar with the material.
OER Project: AP World History - Khan Academy: https://www.khanacademy.org/humanities/world-history-project-ap
Khan Academy is a really great resource for any class that you need. As they say on their website: "OER Project curricula are comprehensive, include diverse perspectives and multiple narratives. Plus, they’re all available online and free! OER Project materials are designed to support diverse learners and provide opportunities for all students to engage in college-level material." They definitely have great supplemental materials to look at for each unit.
AP Study has practice MCQs, short answer questions, and free response questions. It also breaks down the course content and gives clear outlines of each unit.
AlbertIo gives good review guides for the AP test (and tests in your classes). It also gives information about the AP exam in a comprehensive way that can be useful. It also gives other study strategies for the exam and tips for when you're there.
Sample Study Strategy:
Here is a step-by-step of a study strategy for the MCQs for non-procrastinators (highly recommended to not procrastinate!!!!):
1st: Read the textbook and take handwritten notes.
2nd: Watch all the relevant videos on the material (Heimler, Crash Course, etc)
3rd: Read supplemental materials about the topics that you don't understand.
4th: Do practice quizzes online.
5th: For FRQs, look at past exams on College Board and do those. There are scoring guidelines as well.
AP World has a lot of broad topics that are fairly easy to understand if you have the right materials to supplement. If you follow a study strategy that works for you, you will get a deeper understanding of the concepts that will help in the class and on the exam. However, there are many ways to study, so if my strategy doesn't work for you, there are other resources that can help you out!
