UV-C was selected for this project precisely for its harmful effects on living cells and the damage it does to DNA. However, the same properties of the radiation that help us decontaminate face masks can harm us without the proper precautions. Protective eyewear such as that shown in the photo is critical. These glasses filter against wavelengths below 490 nm, providing protection against the complete UV spectrum. Additionally, it is important to cover any exposed skin with thick clothing to prevent skin damage.
