Our participation in the Celebrate Aberdeen Parade was a fantastic way to raise awareness of grassroots rugby and the work of our charity. By taking part in this lively local event, we connected with the community, showcased our mission, and highlighted the positive impact of rugby in Aberdeen.
Our Summer Rugby Camp at Woodside was another milestone for our charity, bringing the excitement of rugby to numerous young players in the community. With sunny days and lots of smiling faces, children enjoyed quality coaching, fun games, and a free gift at the end, all thanks to the support of our team, dedicated volunteers, and partner organisations. This camp not only reinforced our mission to make grassroots rugby accessible to all but also built on the success of our Spring Camp, demonstrating the growing impact of our charity in creating opportunities for young players.
Our collaboration with ARFC to deliver the Easter Rugby Camp 2024 was a major milestone for our charity. Despite the rainy weather, over 70 children attended across the three days, gaining free access to rugby coaching, a hot lunch, and essential equipment like rugby balls and water bottles. This camp not only brought the joy of rugby to young players in the community but also demonstrated the real-world impact of our mission to make grassroots rugby accessible to all. Thanks to the support of our team, dedicated volunteers, and partner organisations, this event marked the first major success for our charity, setting the stage for even bigger initiatives in the future.
The West Highland Way challenge holds a very special place in the story of our charity. On 26th December 2022, we lost our dear friend Declan to a sudden cardiac arrest. Shortly before his passing, we shared an evening of curry and beers with him, during which memories of our plan to walk the West Highland Way together resurfaced.
In his memory, a group of us who have known Declan since 2009 decided to take on this iconic journey. Walking the West Highland Way was more than a physical challenge—it was a tribute to a man who gave so much to his friends, family, and community. Declan had a huge passion for rugby, particularly for helping young people get involved in the sport. His dedication to coaching youngsters at Aberdeen Grammar RFC inspired us to turn this personal challenge into a meaningful cause.
Through this walk, we raised funds to support the launch of our charity, which aims to sponsor disadvantaged children in the North East of Scotland and allow them to participate in team sports such as rugby. This challenge not only helped honour Declan’s memory but also became the first major step in creating a lasting impact for young players in our community. The West Highland Way walk represents where our charity began—rooted in friendship, community, and the shared love of rugby.
