Dr. Garima Chauhan is a neurophysiologist dedicated to exploring the complex connections between stress, behavior, and brain function. After completing her Ph.D. at the Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS), DRDO, she focused her early research on understanding how stress impacts spatial memory and social interactions—because who doesn’t wonder why stress makes us forget simple things or withdraw from others?
Currently, Dr. Chauhan is investigating the effects of chronic and acute stress on decision-making within game-based foraging paradigms. Her goal is to identify behavioral biomarkers that could aid in diagnosing and predicting neuropsychiatric conditions like depression. Additionally, she is working to develop a comprehensive framework that captures the full range of depressive behaviors, contributing valuable insights into mental health diagnosis and prediction.
Her research interests also extend to neurological disorders; she studies brainwave patterns in Laforin knockout epileptic mice, working on algorithms to predict seizure onset.
Beyond the lab, Garima is a strong advocate for a balanced life. She’s equally at home with a spatula or a good book and loves bringing her creative touch to spaces, dancing like no one’s watching, and hosting gatherings. As a proud mom, certified yoga instructor, and science enthusiast, she knows how to handle stress in every aspect of life—whether it’s in the lab or at home!
