Science Test – Chapter 3 – Lesson 1 Study Guide
Students should study using the textbook and the worksheets completed in class.
Students should know the following vocabulary:
Ecosystem
Habitat
Food chain
Producer
Consumer
Decomposer and its importance
Food chain
Food web
Herbivores
Carnivores
Omnivores
Interdependence - in nature, one organism always depends on another
Important aspects:
The Food Web is a diagram that shows the connections between different food chains.
In a food web, organisms feed on more than one type of food. See page 112 of the textbook: the heron eats bass and bullfrogs, so it is part of two separate food chains.
-Humans are omnivores.
- Understand what would happen if one of the organisms suddenly disappeared and could not be the food source for other organisms in its food chain. (see quick check on page 111)
- Students should be able to identify the producers, the consumers, and the decomposers in a food chain.
