SOCIO-ECONOMIC, CULTURAL AND DEMOGRAPHIC BACKGROUND
Adjudged the Best School of the New Millennium several years ago, the De Castro Elementary School provides itself with a rich heritage of commitment and service. Situated at the heart of the De Castro Subdivision in Barangay Sta. Lucia, Pasig City, the school boasts of modern buildings and facilities that cater to the needs of an ever-growing student population. It has an area of five thousand eight hundred seventy three (5,873) square meters, formerly a rice field. Where before flood waters used to surround the area during the rainy season, the improved drainage and modern school buildings have solved the perennial problem of flooding that was the bane of the subdivision homeowner.
In no time, the school started to grow with the steady influx of pupils. From 1971 up to 1974, a series of 5 Marcos-type prefab building were erected. The following year, 1974-1980, saw the rise of a bungalow-type and the 2-storey, 6-room Amang Rodriguez building. From 1994 to 2001, Mayor Vicente P. Eusebio facilitated the construction of Eusebio I through V. The most recent addition supplanting the original A. Rodriguez building, is a 6-storey structure, used by the intermediate pupil that overlooked the entire neighborhood, stressing once again the value of education.
The school likewise boasts of functional service centers that cater to the special needs of its pupils and teaching staff. There are separate centers for SPED, BSP/GSP, Science, Agriculture, Industrial Arts, Property, H.E, Nutrition and Computers as well as a Library/ Art Gallery, Guidance Center and EMIS Center. There is even a mini-eco system with a small fish pond and bird cage among lush greenery, providing a refreshing and conducive backdrop to the learning process.
DCES has surely come a long way since its humble beginning in 1962, thanks in no small part to the people who form the pillars of this institution. Then and now- even amidst the most trying of times- the school’s main resource has always been a dedicated and service oriented staff. From its first classes held in the barest necessities, to today’s use of more modern facilities and methodologies, the De Castro Elementary School continues to provide quality education for all.
With the backing of a colorful history and the support of a dynamic community of devoted teachers and concerned citizens, the school looks forward to more years of quality service and educational excellence.
Indeed, De Castro Elementary School is here to stay.
