Bioselective materials: In the line of precision medicine, precision biomaterials could be selectively bioacitve, these are called Bioselective materials. The materials are picky for example the type 1 bioselective materials are capable of encouraging mammallian cell growth on itself while discouraging microbial anchorage or growth. The materials can change Such materials are rare but their discovery could be accentuated by biomaterialomics or 'data-centric' material research approaches.

Debasish Mishra works as a Professor in VIT, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India. He teaches subjects like bioinspired design and biology for engineers to UG students of all trades. He did his Masters of Science in Zoology from Utkal University, Odisha. Followed by Masters’s of Technology in biotechnology and biochemical engineering from IIT Kharagpur. He did his PhD in tissue engineering from IIT Kharagpur. During his training days in IIT Kharagpur, he was recognized and awarded with many fellowships by India’s some of the most prestigious organizations like CSIR. During his PhD only he was invited to present his work in many palaces. Noteworthy call was from Brandenburg School of Regenerative Therapy (BSRT) Berlin.
He is particularly known for exploring unconventional biological interactions such as exosome-mediated signaling. His research integrates experimental and computational approaches, including spectroscopic and DFT-based simulations, to understand complex biomaterial-cell interfaces. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles and has an h-index of 18, with more than 1,000 citations—a testament to the impact of his work. His contributions have advanced the understanding of biointerface science, especially in hydrogel formation, ionic gelation, and biomaterial design for controlled drug delivery and cell compatibility.
A recognized academic mentor and researcher, Dr. Mishra is also members of the Indian Science Congress, Indian Society of Extracellular Vesicles (InSEV) and regularly contributes to scientific outreach and student training. His ability to connect fundamental science with applied biomedical innovation positions him as a valuable contributor to the field of bioengineering and regenerative medicine in India and beyond.
While Dr. Mishra may not market his research under the label of “bioselective materials,” the essence of his work—involving molecular selectivity, tunable interactions, and cell-responsive design—squarely positions him within this niche. With increasing global interest in precision biomaterials for implants, wound healing, and organoids, Dr. Mishra’s unique blend of polymer science, biophysics, and biology gives him a clear edge to lead impactful research in this space.
