The Chromebooks, Chromeboxes, and Chromebases that were launched before 2019that are able to install Android apps are listed below. Unless specifiedelsewhere, all devices that have launched in or after 2019 will support AndroidApps. Roll-out of Android Apps is done on a device-per-device basis as it isdependent on a number of factors including the hardware platform that thedevice is based on and each device must be compatible withAndroid. While we won't be able tobring Android apps to every Chromebook ever made, we're continuing to evaluatemore devices and we'll update this list as new devices are added. Even if yourChromebook isn't on the list below, it will continue to get other new featuresand improvements.

Important: If you use your Chromebook at work or school, you might not be able to add the Google Play Store or download Android apps. For more information, contact your administrator.

Tip: The Google Play Store and any Android apps that you download are only available for the account that signed in first. To use them with a different account, sign out of your accounts and sign in with the account you want to use.

Tip: If your Chromebook has sync turned off, but backup and restore turned on, it can still back up your Android apps. If you have more than one Chromebook, your Android apps and their data might not sync across your Chromebooks fully.

By default, your Chromebook syncs the Android apps on your Chromebook across your other Chromebooks. If your Chromebook doesn't sync your apps, check your sync settings and select Sync everything or turn on Apps syncing. Learn how to change your sync settings.

If you opt to send Google data about the usage and performance of your Chromebook, Google gets diagnostic and usage data about your app activity. Google also receives crash reports. Any crash reports Chrome sends to Google may also include some sensitive information about your Android apps.

Android tablets and phones are technological marvels that have reshaped our social landscape. They entertain, let you work from any location, and keep you connected with friends, family, and coworkers. With the right app, you can transform your humble cell or slate into a mobile movie theater, work station, art canvas, recipe manager, and so much more. Unfortunately, finding the best Android apps to install can be a challenge.

These 104 recommended apps are organized into 13 categories, including music, productivity, security, and utilities, so it's easy to find ones that suit your mood. Need an entertaining streaming video service? There's an app for that. In search of a dependable word processor that'll keep you productive while on the go? There's an app for that, too. Note that we don't include any games in this roundup. For those, check out our separate list of the best Android games.

If this is your first time with an Android device, perusing over 100 apps might be overwhelming. If so, take a look at our list of 10 must-have Android apps to cover the basics. If your wallet is feeling a little light, know that many of the entries in both lists are free.

There are many apps that pay lip service to security and privacy, but Signal was built from the ground up with the goal of letting people easily communicate without having to worry about being overheard. The Signal app is a complete phone and SMS client replacement (though it works just fine as a standalone app, too) for sending and receiving encrypted calls and messages. The app's look and feel continues to improve, too.

In a world rife with messenger apps, WhatsApp is among the most successful, boasting an enormous and dedicated user base. Add to that an integrated web version that lets users take their chats to the desktop. This Facebook-owned app is bolstered by encrypted messaging provided by the minds behind Signal. It might just be the largest secure messaging service out there.

Adobe Lightroom is a powerful photo-editing app for mobile that retains many of the features from its desktop counterparts, Lightroom, which earned a three-and-a-half star rating, and Lightroom Classic, a five-star Editors' Choice winner. Some of its standout tools include raw camera file profiles, noise reduction, profile-based lens corrections, and advanced color and lighting sliders. Lightroom also notably syncs all these edits between the mobile and desktop apps.

It seems like just yesterday that Facebook-owned Instagram was adding video. Then direct messaging. Then advanced photo editing put it on par with Photoshop Express for image correction and manipulation. Instagram Stories is now far more popular than Snapchat's similar feature. And anti-bullying features should make it more palatable for some. With a clean, minimalist interface, Instagram is the current king of social photo apps.

With tons of effects, controls over layers, drawing tools, and collages, PicsArt Photo Studio can contend with Photoshop and is one of the best photo editing apps for Android. If you think it's just a lowly Instagram clone, you're wrong. When you're looking to take your smartphone snapshots to the next level, seek out this app.

Faxing isn't dead quite yet, but fax machines can safely be left behind thanks to online fax services. Fax.Plus's app is well designed and easy to use. It notably offers a digital signature tool and a contact manager. We like how mobile fax apps allow users to snap a picture of an attachment, attach a fax cover sheet, and send a fax off to a recipient in a few quick actions. Fax.Plus makes this process seamless.

Microsoft Word is, simply put, the alpha and omega of word processing, and one of the key apps in Microsoft Office 365. You'll find it on every kind of computer in every kind of setting, and now it's available for free on Android. Word plugs into Microsoft's cloud infrastructure to keep your documents in order, but its main selling point is that this really is Word. What you make on your phone will look exactly the same on the desktop. For the worker on the go, it's essential.

Here's what gets transferred: contacts, message history, camera photos and videos, photo albums, files and folders, accessibility settings, display settings, web bookmarks, mail accounts, WhatsApp messages and media, and calendars. If they're available on both Google Play and the App Store, some of your free apps will also transfer. After the transfer completes, you can download any free apps that were matched from the App Store.

In the training given by team members David Kim and Angie Zhou, students learned the basics of smartphone application development using the latest built-in components that can utilize generative AI, such as ChatBot and ImageBot, to create apps that talk to people or generate pictures from verbal content and more.

I've been trying out 1password for my family and really enjoying it over other password managers like Lastpass. However, on Android I seem to be having issues with some apps when using credentials that were originally for the website version. For example, my captialone account works fine in browser but when I open up in app, 1P doesn't display my credentials. I have to manually open the 1P app and search for the account, copy and paste the password over. Could this be a permission issue? Is there a "health check" functionality that would check everything is good? Capitalone and thinkorswim are two apps that don't prompt me with credentials even though they are linked.

I suspect there may be two factors at play here. First off, linking to Android apps works a little differently than linking to a website or to apps on another platform (iOS for example). If you have previously used your Capital One login on their website or with the Android app via another password manager, the item likely does not have an Android app link.

I'm having a similar issue with the Starbucks app. Autofill seems to work with other apps, but when I try opening from the android app, the username/password are not populated. I've tried long pressing the password field in the app and do not get the "Open 1Password" or prompt to autofill. What exactly does the Linked app option do? ad can this be manually created?

I was having the same issue with the US Bank app on my android phone. Switching the Autofill setting to show Below the fields they relate to almost works. When I hold on the account name it pops up a box that says Autofill now and will put in the password but not the user ID which may not sound like a problem except I have so many user ID's that I have to go back to 1password and find the user ID. At least I'm only copying the user ID and not the password.

In 2016, the Google Play Store was brought to ChromeOS, allowing the same apps that run on phones and tablets to run on Chromebooks without compromising their speed, simplicity or security. Because Chromebooks run a full version of the Android framework, your app is most likely running on ChromeOS devices today! That means devs can take their single Android APK and scale it to work on any ChromeOS device, allowing for even more immersive and engaging experiences on devices with bigger screens. There are a few differences between phones and ChromeOS devices (and other larger screen form-factors) that can add challenges and opportunities for different experiences such as:

I have obtained the URI info for one of the apps by using the Play Store - Share technique and have placed androidapp:// in front of it. I have specified Default match detection.

I am still having little success in using Bitwarden with Android apps, and no Android users have shown up here to offer advice. grb admits to not being a mobile app user. A related question: Are there ever instances of Bitwarden and an app working together without my having to explicitly define a URI for the app, or is that always a requirement? It has been a while since I left LastPass, but I recall some apps working with it when I did nothing to cause that to happen. ff782bc1db
