There are over 10,000 bird species all over the world divided into 245 families. Among them 535 species are observed in Kerala. When we observe our surroundings we too can observe a wide variety of birds around us. This brought us to the idea of observing and studying the birds in and around the Collectorate Compound of Pathanamthitta. District Collector’s Volunteer Team Pathanamthitta in association with Pathanamthitta BIRDERS, bird watching community of Pathanamthitta started to observe the avifauna of the Collectorate Compound. Within a time period of five month, we have observed over 32 species of birds.
If a small compound, that too often busy with people every day could give this much diversity, how much rich would be our surroundings? How many of us have observed all of these? This thought ended in setting up a photo gallery of the birds observed from the compound. The project Koodorukkam has launched by the District Collector PB Nooh IAS in association with National Birdwatchers Day on November 12th 2020.
