It was an initiative of District Administration in order to curb the rising number of covid cases in the district by creating awareness among the general public about the covid protocols and encouraging them to follow these protocols. The campaign was initiated following the instructions of the District Collector P B Nooh IAS and the logo was launched by Smt. Veena George MLA on 15th August 2020 . The activities of the "Handle with Care '' campaign were monitored by R. Sreeraj, who was the nodal officer of the program and was coordinated by Assistant Collector, Chelsasini V IAS.
The campaign aimed at promoting "reverse quarantine", a method of protecting vulnerable people from getting infected. According to this, children less than the age of 10 and elders over age 60, who belonged to the high risk category were advised to stay in their home, thereby limiting their exposure to the virus. The campaign helped in educating people about the necessity of using facemasks, practicing social distancing and personal hygiene through posters, which were widely circulated through various social media platforms. In connection with this program, several online competitions were conducted among the public for creating awareness about the precautionary measures to check the spread of the deadly virus. This was done in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra and NSS units of various colleges in the district under the coordination of DC Volunteers .The volunteers played an important role in reaching out relevant messages to the society regarding the prevention and control of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
