Skill Level Guide

Beginner

• Can be filmed entirely with a smartphone (though we do encourage using a video camera and audio recorders if you have access to them)

• A chance to practice the 5-shot formula, composition, and exposure (if you don't know how these work, we will teach you!)

• Filming locations are easy to access pretty much anytime

• Minimal editing, just building sequences and simple title graphics

• More on the short-form side, so less time commitment overall

• Individual, do it on your own time

• Flexible deadlines

• Intended for people who are new to filming, interviewing, and/or editing (though experienced members are encouraged to take on leadership positions)

Experienced

• Will mainly use video cameras, and audio recorders with external mics will be used for all interviews

  • Interviews for these projects will always have a member tasked with monitoring audio

• A chance to try out more creative and advanced filming techniques

• More complicated editing 

• Some of these projects may be more on the long-form side, which means long-term commitment

• Often involve scheduled shoots, more collaborative

• Hard deadlines

• Intended for people who already have the basic skills and are willing to commit to specific role(s) for the duration of the project
