These projects are intended to be fun ways to practice skills you will likely be using in Documentary Club. Members are not required to do these, but they are strongly encouraged, especially for beginners. Some are very entry-level, but most allow even experienced creators to try new things and get creative. There's no harm in experimenting!
Each project has a step-by-step walkthrough. The software used is Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition. This software should be free for students to use on lab computers, such as the ones in Gregory Hall.* As far as cameras and audio recorders go, feel free to use whatever you're comfortable with. Phones are perfectly fine. MACS and Journalism students can check out cameras and audio recorders from the Media Technology Center at Gregory Hall.
If you are a beginner, we recommend following the steps closely to familiarize yourself with the process. If you've got the hang of it, though, please feel free to try out different effects and techniques. These exercises are the perfect time to try out new things.
We will discuss these exercises in our club meetings, and we may show completed projects at the following meeting. (We will not be critiquing, since these are warm-ups. Just watching.)
Links to the project guides will be added as they're ready.
*Free student access to Adobe Creative Cloud ends after this semester. You do not need to purchase a license for this software to be a part of Documentary Club; lab computers will still have free access, and there are roles within the production process that do not require editing software. Please do not feel pressure to spend money on Adobe for this club.
