Headlines
This message is sent on behalf of Elaine Popp, President.
Dear colleagues,
It is with deep sadness that I share news of the recent passing of our colleague, Kerry Doyle-Brownell, Student Advisor in the Faculty of Media, Art and Design (MAD).
Kerry has been a valued member of the Durham College (DC) community for more than 30 years. Since joining the college in 1994 as a Support Services Officer, she has supported the Faculty of Media, Art and Design her entire career. Kerry was a DC alumni from the ECE program, and her first role was an ECE at the Lab School (The Early Learning Centre)
Kerry offered kind and compassionate support to every student she guided, helping them navigate their educational journeys and achieve both personal and academic success. She had a special ability to make students feel seen, heard, and encouraged, no matter their challenges. Her kindness extended beyond her work with students – Kerry was a respected colleague, known for her genuine nature, warm smile, and steady willingness to lend a hand wherever it was needed. Her positivity, generosity of spirit, and quiet strength left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to work alongside her.
At this time, funeral arrangements have not been confirmed. Details will be shared by email once they are available.
Our understanding is that a GoFundMe has been created for Kerry's son, that link is HERE,
DC flags at the Oshawa and Whitby campuses will be lowered to half-mast for 24 hours to honour Kerry’s life. Please join me in thinking of Kerry’s family, colleagues, and friends during this difficult time.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Clint MacDonald, who died unexpectedly of a heart attack at 3:29 a.m. on November 15, 2025, at the age of 53.
Clint was a devoted father to his three children, Krystal-Ann Melbourne, Ethan Alexander MacDonald, and Robert Jonah MacDonald, and a cherished brother to Richard MacDonald and Chris MacDonald.
He is survived by his parents, Robert MacDonald and Jean MacDonald, by his children, his siblings, and his extended family, all of whom will continue to carry his memory in their hearts.
He is also survived by his former partner, Angela Jane Baldwin, with whom he shared 2 kids. Even after separation, she remained a part of his life for their children.
Clint built a meaningful career as a professor at Durham College and Seneca College, where he found great joy in teaching Database Design and Computer Programming. Prior to his academic work, he spent many years as a contractor throughout the Durham Region, offering his skills in building and landscaping.
Beyond his professional life, Clint loved spending time with friends, especially through games, Dungeons & Dragons sessions, and the occasional game of squash. Above all, he loved his family deeply; no matter the distance, he always made time to be present for his children.
He also went out of his way to volunteer as a coach for Eclipse Track and Field. He spent his time there helping people of all ages develop their skills in Long Jump and High Jump. He would talk quite a lot about the kids he coached, and their success was always something that brought him joy.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Thornton Cemetery and Funeral Centre, 1200 Thornton Road North, Oshawa (905-579-6787). Guests may gather from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Clint’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Clint will be remembered always for his love of family, his warm and outgoing spirit, and his unwavering work ethic.
