KSLA:

Delaware County

2018: Our Name has Changed!

What was once the Delaware County Reading Council is now the Keystone State Literacy Association: Delaware County. Having always been a council of what used to be named the Keystone State Reading Association and the International Reading Association, we have continued this connection and join every other council in Pennsylvania that adjusted their name to identify that we are all really "one" in our commitment to literacy.

The KSLA: DC Mission

The Keystone State Literacy Association: Delaware County is committed to promoting literacy in schools and community through collaboration.

Our History

One of the oldest councils in the United States, the KSLA: DC originated as the Delaware County Reading Council and was organized in 1963. We have met and worked together on a monthly basis ever since. The council examines issues of literacy and organizes literacy based activities for educators, students, and other adults.

Chartered through the International Reading Association (now ILA) in 1964, we have been an honor council of ILA several times. KSLA: DC has also maintained a close relationship with the Delaware County Intermediate Unit #25. KSLA: DC Board Meetings have been held at DCIU since the organization was originated.

"By tomorrow, today will be history!" so we encourage those of you that are committed to literacy to join us and help carry forth the mission of KSLA: DC!
