Prof. Su-Ling Yeh is a Lifetime Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Associate Director of the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Robotics at National Taiwan University. She was a Fellow at Stanford University’s Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (2019-2020) and is currently a Fellow at the National Humanities Center (2023-2024). She is a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science. Her research spans perception, attention, consciousness, multisensory integration, aging, and applied studies involving display technologies, eye-tracking, affective computing, and social robots. Her talk will focus on human attention and participation regulation from a cognitive science perspective.
Prof. Luis Merino is a Professor at Universidad Pablo de Olavide, Spain, where he leads the Service Robotics Laboratory. His research interests include human-aware and social robotics, such as human-aware navigation, decision-making and control for social robots, planning under uncertainty, and multi-actor systems. He has authored over 100 publications and has led UPO’s participation in multiple national and international research projects. His talk will address participation signaling and availability regulation in human-robot interaction.
Prof. Selma Šabanović is a Professor of Informatics and Cognitive Science at Indiana University Bloomington. She has over 150 publications on social robotics and human-robot interaction, with a focus on exploring how robots should be designed to assist people in various use contexts, including mental health, wellness, and education. She works with current and potential robot users of all ages, from children to older adults, and across cultures, including East Asia, Europe, and the US. She has co-authored two books, "Human-Robot Interaction: An Introduction" and "Designing Interactions with Robots". She currently serves as an Associate Vice President on the IEEE RAS Educational Activities Board and is a member of the Science Robotics Scientific Advisory Board.
Dr. Randy Gomez serves as Chief Scientist at Honda Research Institute Japan Co., Ltd. He received his M.Eng.Sci. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, in 2002, and his Ph.D. in Information Science from the Graduate School of Information Science, Nara Institute of Science and Technology, in 2006. He currently leads the embodied communication research group, which investigates the integration of communication and interaction mechanisms in embodied social robots, including Haru. His talk will address participation and coordination in long-term human-robot coexistence, from social robotic perspectives.
