CITY NATURE CHALLENGE -- Thanks to the participation of DCMN and nature observers throughout the area, Washington DC metro again placed in the top ten for observations, species, and participants in the City Nature Challenge, which took place from April 28th through May 7th. Over 400 cities competed globally to document wildlife in urban environments.
Frog Watch at Kingman Island
On May 1st DC Master Naturalists braved the weather to listen for frog calls and contribute to the City Nature Challenge! We met at Kingman island with John Turvey from Living Classrooms, who introduced us to ForgWatch protocols and a brief history of the island. We prepared by using the new audio function on iNaturalist. Amid the sounds of passing trains and lively weather, we heard the sounds of southern leopard frogs, american toads, and spring peepers! All were documented on iNaturalist.
