1st place team: Carl. Molly. Olivia, Amy, Eleanor
In 2023, students were given the problem of creating a character who does nothing but overreact to very small incidents. This team decided their dramatic character would be a sweet and loveable grandma - first name Grand, last name Ma. See how Grandma's day goes as she deals with birds pooping on her car, her doorbell ringing, and getting in a car accident. What an unfortunate day for Dino (and Grandma)!!
2nd Place Team: Katie, Grace, Lilian, Angel, Layla, Maryann
The girls decided to have their dramatic character be Joe, just your average coffee-drinking, office-working kind of guy. But Joe has a huge problem - his neighbor has a lot of cats and he can't stand it. Watch as he overreacts to getting his coffee spilled, some construction outside of his office, and having his plan to get rid of the neighbor's cats fail. Guess he'll just move to Ohio!!
This problem is exactly what it sounds like - you write an original humorous performance. This is a popular problem, like the classics, but in 2022, they threw teams for a loop by adding in a technical element of having to create circus animals that perform tricks. This team created a circus world that a young person enters from the "normal" world.
In 2021, the students had to write an original play that started us off with a superhero in the perils of a cliffhanger. The plot then backtracks, detailing how the superhero ended up in such danger. And of course, in true OM fashion, there is usually something random. This year is was...socks! This group competed at virtual World Finals and came in 19th out of 76 teams.
