The course introduces students to the area of nanoelectronics, nano-devices and sub-micron electronics. The course is designed for the postgraduate electronics engineering students with little introduction to quantum mechanics and statistical mechanics. The trends towards nanoelectronics are motivated by the miniaturization of microelectronic devices. The course discusses different issues with microelectronic devices as they approaches to the nanoscale. The transition from classical model to introduce quantum mechanical concepts is also discussed.
The key focus of the course is on
Advanced devices architectures like – SOI, nanoMOSFET, Vertical Transistor, Double Gate Transistors, GAA transistors etc.
Review of quantum mechanics.
The principle and the operation of nanoelectronic devices based on Quantum Wells, Nanowires and Quantum Dots.
The major textbooks used in the course are
(a) Fundamentals of Nanoelectronics , George W Hanson, Pearson Prentice Hall
(b) Nanoelectronic Devices, Byung-Gook Park, Sung Woo Hwang, Young June Park, PAN Stanford Publishing
