Adopting a pet is a wonderful and life-changing decision—but it’s also a serious responsibility. Before bringing home your new furry friend, take time to make sure you’re truly ready.
Pets need daily care, love, and attention.
Puppies, kittens, and young animals require more time for training and socialization.
Some pets live 10–20+ years, so be prepared for a long-term commitment.
Initial costs: vaccines and supplies.
Ongoing costs: food, grooming, and vet care.
Unexpected costs: emergencies or behavioral training.
Make sure your home is pet-friendly and has enough space.
If you rent, confirm pets are allowed.
Ensure your environment is safe—no escape routes or hazards.
Choose a pet that matches your activity level and lifestyle.
Plan ahead for care during work hours, travel, or vacations.
Consider how other pets and family members will adjust.
Research breed or species characteristics before deciding.
Choose based on personality and compatibility—not just looks.
Be prepared for patience and understanding during training or adjustment periods.
Adoption is a lifetime commitment—be ready to provide a forever home.
Have a trusted veterinarian lined up.
Keep up with vaccinations, dental care, and regular checkups.
Consider pet insurance to help with medical costs.
All applicants must fill out the adoption form completely—incomplete forms delay approval.
You must be 21 years or older to adopt.
Providing accurate information helps us match you with the right pet and ensures a safe, happy placement.
Adoption saves lives and gives animals a second chance.
Be prepared to work through challenges instead of returning your pet.
Give them love, structure, and the time they need to thrive.
All Friends For Animals pets come with health records and are dewormed, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and tested for all serious diseases. We unfortunately do not provide microchipping, but highly recommend adopters get their pets microchipped after adoption. We are proud to provide our adopters with educational materials!
