NEW EXERCISE CLASSES THROUGH DUMMERSTON CARES
NEW TAI CHI CLASS FOR BALANCE
This class will help participants to prevent falls, by improving confidence for standing and
walking with good balance. No matter your age, size, shape, or experience, everyone can
benefit and all are welcome.
Introductory class: Tuesday, May 14, 9:30 AM
When: 10 weeks on Tuesdays May 14 - July 16, from 9:30-10:30
Where: at Community Center, 150 West St., West Dummerston village
Class size: 10 participants
Attire: Lose clothing and indoor shoes recommended
Focus: Simple but profound Tai Chi movements and Qui Gong postures
Learning: Body wisdom & movement of Chi energy that's all around us
Helps: Walking, climbing stairs, recovery from injury & surgery, building confidence and
joy in movement.
Leader: Helen Hawes, 40-year Tai Chi practitioner and 30-year Focusing trainer. She
combines Tai Chi, Qui Gong and Focusing in a new approach to personal transformation.
NEW GENTLE YOGA CLASS
This class is for everyone, including older people and those with mild limitations.
Introductory class: Wednesday, May 15, 4 PM
When: Two sessions, Wednesdays May l5-June 12, Wednesdays July 10 - Aug. 28, 4-5 PM
Where: Community Center, 150 West St., West Dummerston village
Class size: 10 participants
Attire: Loose clothing
Style: Viniyoga, or adaptive yoga for an individual needs
Level: Adaptation of classic & simple poses to suit individual flexibility & strength
Breath & Meditation: May be emphasized more than postures for some older participants
Meditation: May be a helpful focus for older practioners
Supplies: Students supply yoga mat plus blanket and block for adapting postures
Leader: Judith Carpenter, yoga teacher for 20-plus years and Physicians Assistant for 24 years
