We designed the Resource Sets to be a self-directed learning library to fit with the diverse interests and experiences of our participants. In each Resource Set you will find directed sections and avenues to explore. Some will help you become comfortable with topics that those who are not as familiar with advocacy might not know about, such as what rights you have under the ADA. Some will help you take your advocacy further; for example, exploring the perspectives of people with disabilities who have run for public office.
Each Resource Set has a list of TOPICS and a set of RESOURCES. Some of the TOPICS include a worksheet or questionnaire designed to promote conversation with other participants, activists, and advocates. There is no one way to do this!
Join us for your advocacy journey!
We conceived of DCAL as a dynamic experience. Moving through the Resource Sets with a small group of other advocates is a great way to build community, talk through issues and approaches, and develop as advocates together. DCAL Coordinators and other volunteers will lead workshop sessions, host luncheons with activists and advocates, and support your advocacy journey, partnering for the long-term.
You Can Move Through the Resource Sets Solo
We suggest exploring Research Set #1 and move through the modules at your own pace, completing worksheets and using resources to learn more about ways you can create change in your community. DCAL Coordinators are always available to work with and support you. We prefer people register their interest below so we can be in touch.
