Research Activities of the Department

Introduced New Experiments

· Hands on the equipment- UV-visible spectrophotometer.

· Synthesis of nanoparticles by chemical route, sol-gel technique and natural extracts.

· Thin films deposition using spin coating technique.

· Development of concept and hands on skills of structural analysis.

· Surface Plasmon study of metal nanoparticles by UV-Visible spectrophotometer. XRD pattern of nanomaterials and estimation of particle size.

· To study the effect of size on color of nanomaterials.

· Prepare a disc of ceramic of a compound using ball milling, pressing and

sintering, and study its XRD.

· Fabricate a thin film of nanoparticles by spin coating (or chemical route) and

study transmittance spectra in UV-Visible region.

Ø Project status: Systematic methodology of the problem has been devised. Students have been trained for the same. Nanostructured thin films were fabricated using chemical route.

Magnetic Semiconductor Devices using Hetero-structure Thin Films.

Ø Project status: Students have completed the literature survey about sol-gel technique and thin film deposition. Magnetic thin films were deposited on ITO substrates using spin coating.

Physical and Biological investigations on Transition metal doped TiO2Nanostructures: A promising diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS).

Ø Mentor/PI: Ms. Manju Rani, Dr. Aditya Saxena and Dr. Brijmohan.

Ø Number of students: Five

Ø Project status: Literature survey was done by the students, involves the systematic and comprehensive study of transition metal doped TiO2 nanoparticles on structural, optical, magnetic and biological propertiesin nano regime.They are also practicing with Fullprof software for the Structural analysis by Rietveld Method.


Ball Milling: Top-down approach for the preparation of magnetic nanomaterials.

Ø Number of students: Five

Ø Project status: The importance of Top-down approach was analyzed by students with systematic review of literature. Further knowledge of magnetic nanoparticle’s physical, structural, and magnetic properties was given to students.

Optical and electrical dispersion of biomolecule, nanomaterials, thin films and optically anisotropic materials.

Ø Project status: Students have been provided hands on training in synthesis of nanomaterials by using natural plant extracts. Further strategy has been established to study the anisotropic effect of thin film of nanomaterials and biomolecules example cholesterol.
