Lecture series on “Advances in Nanosciences”

Oragnaized on 21st October 2019

Invited speakers: Prof. Bijoy K. Kuanr, Chairperson, Special Center from Nanoscience, JNU. Dr. Balaji Birajdar, Assistant Professor, Special Center from Nanoscience, JNU

The lecture series discussed various areas of Nanosciences, which include the nanostructured materials, which can be used for future 5G technology, microwave and millimetre wave high frequency devices, and applications of magnetic materials in GMR bio-sensors and in Cancer treatment. Students also got the chance to understand nanoscale characterization techniques such as scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The talk explained the use of iron oxide (Fe3O4) nanoparticles (Fe-NPs) in a wide variety of biological and medical applications such as contrast agent in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), in magnetic hyperthermia to cure cancer, drug delivery, cell labelling.

2020-21

1. Two-Days National Seminar on

“Emerging Trends in Contemporary Physics”

“Emerging Trends in Contemporary Physics”

  • Department organized a Two-Day National Seminar on “Emerging Trends in Contemporary Physics” held on 30th and 31st March 2021 for young researchers, faculties, college students under aegis of IQAC and DBT STAR college scheme.

  • On the first day of seminar, eminent scientists and academicians Prof. Vinay Gupta, Department of Physics and Astrophysics, University of Delhi had delivered lecture entitled “2D MoS2 layers: Outstanding material for Environmental Monitoring and Energy Harvesting”. He talked about the techniques involved in the fabrication of 2D-materials. Advantages and superiority of 2D-materials like MoS2 for various applications have also been discussed.

  • Three faculties of the department: Dr. Amit Chaudhary, Dr. Ayushi Paliwal and Dr. Monika Sharma have given hands-on sessions specially for college students on the topics Dielectric Spectroscopy, Surface Plasmon Resonance and Atomic Force Microscopy respectively.

  • Prof. Binay Kumar, Department of Physics and Astrophysics, University of Delhi gave a talk on “Understanding crystals for Science and Society” on the second day i.e. 31st March 2021. He discussed about the importance of crystals in science and society. Various aspects of growing pure crystals and their applications were discussed in detail.

  • On the second day itself, Prof. Bijoy K. Kuanr, JNU delivered a talk on “GMR Sensors and their Applications”. The lecture elaborated the working and fabrication of GMR sensors.

2. Webinar on “Introduction to COMSOL Multiphysics”

Introduction to COMSOL Multiphysics

A webinar was organized on March 25, 2021. Mr. Nitish Chaurasia, Applications Engineer from COMSOL delivered a highly interesting and enlightening lecture on “Introduction to COMSOL Multiphysics”. He talked about the various modules provided by Comsol which can be utilized in theoretical simulation of various fields of physics. There are some basic modules free of cost which are very helpful for teaching students the basics of physics. Some advanced modules can be used for research purposes.

3. Two-days workshop on “Vacuum Coating, sputtering and thin film deposition techniques”

Vacuum Coating, sputtering and thin film deposition techniques

The department organized a two-days workshop on “Vacuum Coating, sputtering and thin film deposition techniques” on 22nd and 25th March 2021 under the aegis of IQAC and DBT STAR College Scheme. Dr. R. K. Garg from Technology Application Services installed the sputtering cum thermal evaporation unit in our department and gave hands-on session on the installation of the instrument. He discussed about the creation of vacuum and deposition of thin film using the same setup.

2021-22

Department of Physics, Deshbandhu College (University of Delhi), Kalkaji New Delhi under the aegis of IQAC, DBT Star College Scheme, Physical Science Society and YUVA in collaboration with Office of the Controller General of Patents, Design & Trade Marks, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India under the initiative of the Government “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” and National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission organized online via zoom platform “Intellectual Property Right Awareness Program” on 12th January-2022 (Wednesday).

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) awareness can help you protect your unique creations. There are several types of intellectual property protection like Patents, Designs, Copyrights, Trademarks, etc. In this IPR awareness program the participants learned about the basic idea of various intellectual properties in term of their applicability, utility, technical aspects and difference between various intellectual properties. Also, this program made the participants familiar with the basic procedure of filing the applications (creations/invention) in Intellectual Property Office.

IPR awareness is extremely important to foster a creative and innovative spirit among students. Students learned about the ways in which they can safeguard their creations.
