Days in Canada

How to use the app

The first thing you need to do is add an "Event". After adding events you'll be able to see information about your stay in Canada and your Canadian citizenship application date, if eligible.

What is an Event

Events can be:

  • Arrival: Any entry to Canada or change of status inside Canada.

  • Exit: Any exit from Canada

Creating an Event

To create an Event, go to the Events tab (by tapping "Events" on the bottom right) and then tap the plus (+) icon on the top right of the screen.

Select the date of your event, choose if it's an "Arrival" or an "Exit", turn the "Permanent Resident?" switch on (if you became or were a permanent resident on the day of this event) or off (if you were a temporary resident on the day of this event).

When creating an Exit event, you'll need to input the destination (where you went to from Canada) and reason (ie purpose of your trip).

Finally, tap "Save".

Reading your Summary

To check information about your stay in Canada and Canadian citizenship application, go to Summary (by tapping "Summary" on the bottom left).

  • Days in Canada: How many days you've been in Canada since 5 years ago (5 years is the eligible time to gain points for citizenship application)

  • Total points: How many points you have currently (up to the previous day). This is a sum of your "Days in Canada as PR" and half of your "Days in Canada as TR" (up to 365 points)

  • You can apply for Canadian citizenship from: This is the estimate date that you'll have 1095 points and be eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship. If there is no date displayed, check the message in red below the question mark.

  • Days until application: Remaining days until the date above.

  • Days in Canada as PR: The number of days that you have been in Canada as a permanent resident

  • Days in Canada as TR: The number of days that you have been in Canada as a temporary resident

  • Days out of Canada as PR: The number of days that you have been out of Canada as a permanent resident (starts to count on the day after your exit)

  • Days out of Canada as TR: The number of days that you have been out of Canada as a temporary resident (starts to count on the day after your exit)

Common Errors

  • You can't have 2 exits in a row

  • You can't have 2 arrivals in a row if they have the same status (permanent resident?)

  • You won't have an estimate date of application if your last event is an Exit

  • You won't have an estimate date of application if your last event status is not permanent resident
