Love At First Sight

I love music videos! I’ve wanted to start a few projects showing appreciation for music videos for a while now, and I finally committed to producing this hand-drawn animation on Blender - using Grease Pencil, with a 3D backdrop.

I started this piece with a clip of the chorus from Kylie’s Love at First Sight, studied her dance moves and made some rough key frames. I attempted a lineless style when using the grease pencil fill tool, and stacked on layers within the same stroke object to add each element to Kylie’s look. I modelled a simple cubed background similar to the backdrop in the music video, and drew on top of it with grease pencil lines. Last of all, I edited and composited the piece in DaVinci Resolve to capture the graphics and colour tones of the video.

Experimenting with Grease Pencil has been challenging but exciting once getting to know the tools.
