Engineering is the field of study that most interests me. I have always been a creative person and feel that the broad applications within civil and environmental engineering would provide opportunities for me to apply my creativity and problem solving skills. I would like to find ways to help individuals and their communities while working hands on.
I know that a strong STEM background is crucial to success in engineering. I am building a base in mathematics, having completed geometry, algebra, algebra two, and pre-calculus and will be taking AP calculus in the coming year. In order to expand my scientific knowledge and understanding of systems I have taken Biology, Chemistry and AP Physics. Along with this, computer Science courses have helped me develop a deeper understanding of technology. The Dr. James A. Forrest career and technology center is also playing a huge role in my engineering education, being enrolled in the two year engineering program has helped me develop skills with hand drafting, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks, while also providing me with hands on experiences like welding, fabrication, and use of a vast variety of tools.
My whole life I have been playing soccer, inspired by my mother who continues to participate in my soccer career and even her own. Both my club travel team and the high school team have taught me the importance of hard work. Without hard work, nobody can ever progress or improve themselves in anyway, this applies to both soccer and life. Practicing everyday in soccer is what helped me improve my skills, and the same outcome will be found when practicing and working hard at any of my goals. Another great takeaway I have gained from playing soccer is how important leaders are, whether you're the one being led or leading others. For example, a new teammate needs guidance and help learning the ropes from someone who has experience with the team, similar to a new team member in a workspace. It is always important to be a leader to help not only yourself but all of your peers as well.
When I graduate high school, I plan to enter a four year college with a strong engineering program so I can leave with the skills needed to attain a career in the field I choose to pursue. After achieving my goal, I hope to participate in the innovation of new technologies and new aspects of design, not only changing the world of engineering but also the world as a whole.
