Introduction 👋👋🏻
Hello, our names are Rico and Sinsi, and we'd like to introduce you to the data visualization in learning OER. In our presentation, we'd like show you how presenting data has grown over time and how it's becoming much easier in the education field to present complex information through pictures.
Why do we visualize data? 🥸
As ways to collect data have become more advanced and efficient, we need a method to interpret that data into ways audiences in a business, classroom or the general public can understand. If gathering data is like the field and the mill, data visualization is the bakery.
Is there a lot more data? 📊
Yes, there is a lot more data. From cookies to devices to surveys to GPS tracking, there are so many more ways to collect data than ever before. Consider data visualization as the final step to data analysis.
Data visualization enables us to 📈:
Organize the data we collect
Allow people to interact, digest, and analyze the information without overwhelming them
Find and recognize relationships between the numbers and what is being studied. Visualization is the final step where we bring data sets together to sum up the stories
Data Visualization and Learning 🎓
In learning and education, Data visualization presents a new frontier in how we teach complex and difficult subjects in different education programs. Previously challenging statistical content can be communicated to any audience, regardless of grade level or educational background.
In this OER, we'll explore the different benefits, growth and challenges of data visualization in education.
Examples of data visualization [Slides]🛝
Below are examples of ways data can be visualized. In this OER you'll learn how data visualization enhances education and that there are countless ways to present data. Data visualization is always about telling a story. Try to guess what story each data visualization it is trying to say.
Participation 🎉
In our OER, please make the time to interact with our topic by reading through our content and appreciating the different kinds of data presented. There are 3 discussions to take the place of big group discussions and extremely short quiz.
Data visualization and storytelling 📖
Most recently, the ability to create high-impact data visualization and access to all kinds data have allowed teachers to experiment with data visualization stories. By pairing simple graphics of data as aids to storytelling, it enhances long-term memory of that specifc topic. Below is an example of this using "Spotify Wrapped".
