Our overarching goal is to help firmly establish data ethics in education, research, and practice – at the Department of Statistics at LMU Munich and beyond.
Data ethics is not a single, separate study module to complete once and then relegate to the back of the mind. Rather, ethical awareness and responsibility need to be embedded – interwoven within all aspects of practice and research in statistics and data science. As such, we strive to help integrate data ethics aspects into existing teaching units – each where they fit best.
As data ethics data ethics only becomes manifest in a specific context, . While we are in the process of developing projects, as an interested student, you can simply contact us with your general interest. Or, if you have one already, a specific project in which data ethics is important.
We are currently organizing a workshop on Data and AI Ethics (November 2025, Munich).
A journal club to discuss works in data ethics – in a broad sense – will start in the fall of 2025. You are welcome to join us for sessions that you find interesting.
If you do research on data ethics that is a fit for the journal club, we would also be happy to have you as guest to discuss your work.
