We're sure that our media savvy symposium speakers have thoughtful answers to that question.
For our purposes, let's keep it simple—we would appreciate it if you helped spread the word about our event.
This page is designed to make it easier for you to support the symposium on your personal or organizational social media. Below are images paired with text targeted to platforms where that content may be most useful.
For simplicity, all images and PDFs are in this dropbox: https://bit.ly/DD_SocialMedia
Below are two general images sized for Facebook that may be shared with the sample text provided. The first image references our connection to our sponsor, AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellowships. The second is as simple as possible focusing on the general schedule for the event/
Data is a double-edged sword for democracy; it can be used to empower decision making or to manipulate for power or profit. Hear experts discuss gerrymandering and fair representation, media and misinformation, and evidence-based policymaking at this DATA & DEMOCRACY virtual symposium.
Keynote Speaker:
PETER POMERANTSEV, Senior Fellow at the SNF Agora Institute of Johns Hopkins University and contributor to The Atlantic. Peter is the author of two award-winning books, Nothing is True and Everything is Possible (2014) and This is NOT Propaganda: Adventures in the War Against Reality (2019). His most recent article in The Atlantic, co-authored with Anne Appelbaum, is "How to Put Out Democracy's Dumpster Fire."
The Keynote Address will highlight the challenges and opportunities of data and explain how an Internet that promotes democratic values—instead of destroying them—lies within our grasp.

This is the type of a document that could be printed out and posted on a bulletin board by a department's office in a university setting. That said, it's probably best suited to distribute as a digital attachment via email.
The PDF is full of hyperlinks. For example, clicking on an organization's name will take you to a page featuring the speaker affiliated with that organization.
There are two versions of this PDF; one version uses the Data & Democracy red and blue puzzle cube logo, and the other one uses a more conventional logo representing digital democracy.
It is unclear if Instagram is a fruitful way to spread the word for an academic symposium. All the same, for the optimists out there and the people who know how to motivate their audience—here's some content if you're inspired.
All images below are 1080 x 1080 pixels.

Thurs, July 15th • Why this event matters to you
If you're a symposium speaker or are affiliated with a speaker, our designer Chris Schreiber is open to crafting something for you if you have a need or idea not served by the content above. We trust that you know your audience and followers best.
In many ways, for each of the speakers—supporting your content is supporting our efforts. Chris is particularly interested in promoting publications, articles, and perhaps even YouTube videos of interviews or lectures. This is already planned for the lead up to the event, but any suggestions or resources you have are appreciated.
We're looking to both prime and educate our symposium audience if possible. Even if someone can't attend, it would be positive if they learned something worthwhile by following along with our social media content through July 15th.
Please email Chris if you need anything or have an idea.
