Social Evaluation Study

How does being "rated" by others affect young people's learning and mental well-being?

We hope to use this study to support young people who may struggle in environments where they are frequently evaluated by others. We are looking to recruit participants aged 11-30 years to complete this online study.

This study will take approximately 60 minutes to complete. If you complete all parts of the study you will receive an AUD$20 online voucher of your choice [Coles (Australia Only) or Amazon].

Who can participate?

This study is open to those who:

  • Are aged 11-30 years
  • Are fluent in English
  • Have access to the internet and a computer OR laptop OR tablet to complete the study on
  • Have no history of diagnosed learning disabilities and/or neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders (including but not limited to dyslexia, autism spectrum disorder, epilepsy)
  • Have no history of Traumatic Brain Injury

Important: Young people under 18 years of age need parental/guardian consent to participate.

What is involved?

The study is completed online. You will be asked to complete a series of questionnaires measuring mental well-being and how people feel in social situations. You will also be asked to complete a memory task and a two-part learning task. Finally, there is a one-minute audio recording to complete and rating of others’ recordings.

The Social Evaluation Study has received ethical approval from the Human Research Ethics Committee at the University of New South Wales, Sydney [HC200262].
