Classroom Management
Classroom Management
I utilize three different means of engaging students and managing their behavior. These systems are based upon individual, team, and whole group behaviors.

Individual - Class Dojo Coins
Individual - Class Dojo Coins
The first classroom management tool that I use is coins. These coins are earned by students through their good behavior. This helps the children realize that they are responsible for their actions and behavior. The students are given the opportunity to "spend" the tickets that they have earned at the end of the grading period in our class store. We spend time discussing how the store will go, and what treats and toys they may bid on.

If you would like to donate items for the class store, please make sure that they are age and school appropriate.

Some ways students earn tickets:
Some ways students earn tickets:
- go the extra mile to help a student or teacher in need.
- are the first or second to do what I ask.
- are extra polite and respectful.
- do outstanding work.
Some ways students lose tickets:
Some ways students lose tickets:
- distracting other students from their work
- getting up out of their seats and talking to friends when they should not be doing so (in the middle of our lesson)
- interrupting me or other students as they are speaking (Class Rule #2)
- calling out
- interrupting small group time when they are not at the center
Group - Table Team
Group - Table Team
Student desks are placed into groups of four. These "teams" will share a storage container between their desks with their supplies. This reduces the clutter their desks, and keeps them organized. One student each week will be the table team leader. This leader will get the supplies out of the storage container and pass them out to their table. Based on behavior, these teams will be allowed to line up first, get their lunchboxes first, etc. The table teams earn clips throughout the week and on Friday we see which table has earned the most clips. This table team is given the opportunity to choose between a treat (a piece of candy) or a ticket.

Class - Gems in the Jar
Class - Gems in the Jar
As a class, we will be working to earn our class incentive. This will be decided upon by the class. The students will earn gems by showing good behavior, being quiet in the hallway, receiving compliments from other teachers regarding our behavior as a class, everyone turning in their homework on Friday and more. Once we fill the jar, students will earn their incentive.

Consequences
Consequences
- Warning: Bad behavior will first result in a warning.
- Loss of a Privilege: If the bad behavior persists, the student will lose a privilege. This may be something small such as losing a ticket or something larger such as free time, recess time or another preferred activity.
- "Think About It" Sheet/Parent Contact: If the behavior continues, I will contact parents. The student will fill out a "think about it" worksheet for me. On this sheet, they summarize what they did wrong, why it was wrong, and what they can do better next time. Additionally, they will pick their own consequence. This is more meaningful and allows for the student I have a say or a choice in the consequence for their actions. I sign this paper, as does the student and then it is sent home to be discussed.
- Office Referral: Any child will be sent directly to the office if they display severe behavior. Any behavior deemed unsafe or which interferes with my teaching or with any student’s right to learn will not be tolerated.
