Johann Nepomuk Hofzinser (19 June 1806 – 11 March 1875) was an Austrian-Hungarian Master Magician and illusionist. He used the moniker "Dr. Hofzinser" as a stage name later in his Magic career. He created many of the Best Card Magic Routines and card sleights that are Classics and are still being used my magicians today. He is known as the father of Card Magic. He traveled to many counties to perform his Amazing Magic. He is also portrayed by the actor Philip McGough, in the 2006 movie The Illusionist, starring Edward Norton, Jessica Biel and Paul Giamatti. While he was a great conjuror, Hofzinser also became well known for his many inventions, in particular his automata, as well as for card manipulations and his Parlor/ Salon Magic.
