This unit was pretty much "housekeeping" type of activities. I showed that I can navigate Brightspace and can write an email. I logged into SIMPath for the first time and took my first lesson there. I'm glad it gives the option to pre-test so I can skip the portions I'm already familiar with. I'm looking forward to covering new material in upcoming weeks.
Information System - A combination of hardware, software, data, people, and processes to create, collect, store, and use data.
Learning Management System - A platform such as Brightspace where online lessons are stored and organized.
User Interface - Usually includes graphics but is sometimes just text, it’s what’s displayed on the screen for the human to interact with the computer.
Waffle - A menu icon that looks like a three-by-three grid of boxes or dots.
Hamburger - A menu icon that looks like three horizontal lines stacked on each other.
CC - Carbon copy, for when you want to email multiple people at once.
BCC - Blind carbon copy, for when you want to email multiple people at once but you don’t want them to know you did. Good for maintaining privacy of people’s email addresses but bad for group discussions.
Attachment - A file added to an email.
Signature file - Inserted at the end of an email, usually includes the sender’s name and contact information.
When I searched my name online, I found some results that were me and a lot of results that weren't me. I kind of like the ambiguity. The AI summarized results talked about a project I worked on that I have strongly mixed feelings regarding, and I have mixed feelings about AI presenting that information to other people. I wonder about the future of "right to be forgotten" laws in regards to AI. I can remove that information from LinkedIn, I can maybe reach out to the newspaper that wrote about it, but that information is in the belly of AI possibly forever now. Unfortunately, with AI being how it is currently, I can't get it to replicate that result for a screenshot. Then again, maybe I don't want to screenshot and preserve that information even further.
Here's a screenshot indicating which of these pages are definitely mine, and one that definitely is not. This is from searching "Darcy Elliott Baltimore." I feel kind of weird about all the pages offering information about my address and other contact information.
