Summer Students and Interns
Below are the students I supervised since I am in post at St Andrews.
My name is Justine Schmitt. I'm 21 years old and currently studying in Marseille to complete my master in engineering. I have worked with Daphné during a 6-month internship, which was part of my degree. I have studied theoretically and experimentally the interactions between Rossby waves and the mean flow in planetary atmospheres. From now on, I have to finish my master's degree in order to become a mechanical engineer.
Undergraduate physics student at the University of St Andrews. As a part of my Laidlaw research project, I explored the effect of horizontal convection and ice-topology on the ocean dynamics of Europa. Had quite a bit of fun, learned new physics, and am very much looking forward to working on more research projects in the future.
I’m an undergraduate maths student at the University of Glasgow, and had a great time over summer looking into Lagrangian transport across turbulent zonal jets with Daphné! The experience gave me a good insight into the process of research, which I hope to carry on into my future studies.
I am a final year Integrated Masters student in Mathematics at the University of St Andrews who worked with Daphné over a 6-week summer research internship. We investigated the interaction of Rossby waves and mean flow of zonal jets using direct numerical simulation and hoped to compare the results to a theoretical model Daphné had developed. I hope to continue research in fluid dynamics in my Masters dissertation and beyond.
