I decided to become a Computer Science major since I was in high school. I went to a gifted high school in Vietnam where everyone was extremely smart, and Computer Science was the only subject that I was better than my classmates. When it was time to apply for college, I decided to apply as a CS major, simply because I was good at it.
As I started taking more upper-division classes, I realized that it wasn't as easy as I thought. Just like everything else, once you go deeper into the field, it gets more difficult. But by this time, I already developed a strong relationship with the subject that I didn't want to switch out. I loved sitting in the labs for long hours solving problems, debugging my code, and chatting with other CS students in the labs. It has become an essential part of my life. It makes me happy.
I know I still have a lot more to learn, but I will work hard to pursue my passion.
One of my favorite quotes is, “The harder you fall, the higher you bounce.” I’ve faced many hardships in life - including growing up in a refugee camp, a story for another time - but I believe everything happens for a reason. Each obstacle has strengthened my perseverance and given me the experience to overcome future challenges. These experiences have shaped my dreams and continue to motivate me to pursue my aspirations.
I like hanging out with my friends and colleagues, watching Asian drama, listening to Kpop/Cpop, traveling, doing adventurous things (whitewater rafting, snowboarding, etc), and building houses in the Sims (I'm a hardcore fan of the game).
