Exhibit 1

Student Organization Tips

Background: Middle and High school can be overwhelming for students, especially if they struggle to keep organized. I wanted to create a graphic with an acronym to help give students some times to better manage their time as a student and meet deadlines. This was created to be displayed on a screen at school.

Photoshop Skills Used:

  • text boxes

  • shapes

  • layers

  • photo editing (quick selection & paint brush)

Design:

  • Contrast: I created contrast by using blue and orange with are also complementary colors. I chose white for the font instead of black so that it would contrast better. I also chose contrasting fonts (script and slab serif) to help the acronym pop out more.

  • Repetition: I tried to use repetition within the colors and the alignment of the type.

  • Alignment: I tried to section things off and create an alignment between the pictures and the type. I also chose a centered alignment to go with the columns.

  • Visual Hierarchy: I created clear columns to delineate the content and guide the readers first to the problem, then to the solution and finally some end encouragement.

  • Proximity: I tried to be conscious of white space and tried not to pack everything in too tightly.

  • Color Scheme: I used blue and orange which are complementary and then I contrasted with white. I felt that the blue and orange are energetic together which I wanted to use to help portray the positive vibe of the message.

  • Font Scheme: I chose a slab serif font for the acronym and the headers and contrasted with a script font for the explanations of the acronym.
