Athletic Department Mission Statement
It is the mission of our Department of Athletics to offer an educational interscholastic athletic program which develops tomorrow’s leaders by instilling discipline, integrity, and sportsmanship in each student-athlete. Our athletic program will recognize the positive roles, importance, and the value of an education-based interscholastic athletics as a part of the student-athletes total education experience.
Athletic Department Philosophy
The philosophy of our athletic program is to create excellence through education and competitive experiences in an atmosphere of sportsmanship. Our student-athletes' health and well-being is our primary consideration and will always be more important than the outcome of an athletic contest. We believe that winning and losing are essential only when considered in how games are played. We value the character and how student-athletes represent themselves during competition. We expect our student-athletes to follow our Mission Statement and uphold the all goals. We expect all student-athletes to practice good sportsmanship at all times.
Athletics should function as an integral part of the total curriculum. It should offer opportunities to serve the institution, to assist in the development of positive relationships and good will, to promote self-realization, and all-around growth and good citizenship qualities. The athletic experience fosters those attributes of good citizenship such as a sense of fair play, respect for others, proper attitudes, high ideals and self-discipline.
The Athletic Department believes that athletics are an integral part of the school's education program. We strive to educate the whole child, and not just the student's academic core. Athletics offer a positive and meaningful experience that will enhance the growth and development of all young men and women who participate. Student-athletes learn valuable lessons while playing sports that cannot be taught in a classroom. This athletic program is designed to provide experiences that will develop:
· Leadership and Character
· Self-discipline
· Responsibility and Accountability
Participation in athletics is an important part of the student's educational experience. These experiences contribute to the knowledge, skills, and emotional development of students. However, participation on an athletic team is a privilege and not a right. High standards of conduct will be expected of students on and off the playing courts and fields. Our department believes that interscholastic activities provides the student-athlete with the tools both mentally and physically to face and conquer adversity and future challenges. We will provide a safe environment for our student-athletes to compete, but we also want to be able to mold the minds of the young in a positive direction so that they can pass on the lessons of sport to the generation after them.
