The purpose of this assignment is to learn basic digitizing techniques in ArcMap. Digitization involves using an image or a paper map, which is then manually converted into vector data, using the editor, creating a feature, and snapping tools. Along with learning how to digitize an image, we also learn how to create an empty shapefile, create new features, and edit a shapefile. Digitization is essential because it allows us to transform old, physical maps into digital copies while keeping the map as accurate as possible. A digitized map is also more accessible and convenient for professionals who need to utilize that data.
