This GIS analysis examined the demographics of San Antonio, Texas, by race, as well as police stop data, to identify patterns of disparity in police stops. The darker shades of purple indicate areas with a lower proportion of a specific racial population, but a higher proportion of police stops relative to that population. This visualization highlights potential hotspots of disproportionate policing and helps to inform efforts to address systemic inequalities in law enforcement.
The analysis consists of three maps, each focusing on a specific racial group: African Americans, Whites, and Hispanics. By comparing these maps, we can gain a deeper understanding of the disparities in police stops experienced by different racial groups in San Antonio. The maps reveal that certain areas of the city have higher rates of police stops for one or more racial groups, suggesting areas where community engagement and outreach efforts may be particularly valuable.
