John 1:35-42
Andrew Recognizes Jesus
35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, "Look, the Lamb of God!"
37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. 38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, "What do you want?"
They said, "Rabbi" (which means Teacher), "where are you staying?"
39 "Come," he replied, "and you will see."
So they went and saw where he was staying, and spent that day with him. It was about the tenth hour.
40 Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, "We have found the Messiah" (that is, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus.
Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas" (which, when translated, is Peter).
Daniel 7:1-14
The Messiah
1 In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream, and visions passed through his mind as he was lying on his bed. He wrote down the substance of his dream.
2 Daniel said: “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me were the four winds of heaven churning up the great sea. 3 Four great beasts, each different from the others, came up out of the sea.
4 “The first was like a lion, and it had the wings of an eagle. I watched until its wings were torn off and it was lifted from the ground so that it stood on two feet like a man, and the heart of a man was given to it.
5 “And there before me was a second beast, which looked like a bear. It was raised up on one of its sides, and it had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. It was told, ‘Get up and eat your fill of flesh!’
6 “After that, I looked, and there before me was another beast, one that looked like a leopard. And on its back it had four wings like those of a bird. This beast had four heads, and it was given authority to rule.
7 “After that, in my vision at night I looked, and there before me was a fourth beast—terrifying and frightening and very powerful. It had large iron teeth; it crushed and devoured its victims and trampled underfoot whatever was left. It was different from all the former beasts, and it had ten horns.
8 “While I was thinking about the horns, there before me was another horn, a little one, which came up among them; and three of the first horns were uprooted before it. This horn had eyes like the eyes of a man and a mouth that spoke boastfully.
9 “As I looked,
“thrones were set in place,
and the Ancient of Days took his seat.
His clothing was as white as snow;
the hair of his head was white like wool.
His throne was flaming with fire,
and its wheels were all ablaze.
10 A river of fire was flowing,
coming out from before him.
Thousands upon thousands attended him;
ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him.
The court was seated,
and the books were opened.
11 “Then I continued to watch because of the boastful words the horn was speaking. I kept looking until the beast was slain and its body destroyed and thrown into the blazing fire. 12 (The other beasts had been stripped of their authority, but were allowed to live for a period of time.)
13 “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.
Matthew 24:26-35
Jesus' Second Coming
26 “So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28 Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.
29 “Immediately after the distress of those days
“‘the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’
30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. 34 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
Daniel and the Book of Daniel was written in the 500 to 600 b.c. time...Hundreds and hundreds of years before Jesus was born or on earth...Daniel says that, “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven...He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into His presence...He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him...His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed...
The Messiah would somehow set up a Kingdom and have followers that would never pass away, and a Kingdom that would never be destroyed...So the Ancient of Days, God, would give the Messiah a Kingdom, one that would always be here and He would also be given glory...And so Jesus has a Universal Kingdom, one with glory, that will never pass away -an Eternal Kingdom...
The Messiah was to come from the lineage of David...He was to lead the people of Israel...He would redeem the people of Israel...Many thought the Messiah would be a military leader, and a king...Daniel says the Messiah would have authority, glory, and sovereign power...The Messiah would serve men of every language and they would worship Him...He would set up an everlasting dominion and His kingdom would never pass away or be destroyed...Daniel even calls Him and says there before me was One like the Son of Man...The Messiah would the Son of Man...Daniel seemed to understand much about the Messiah...
Andrew ,after listening to John the Baptist and then meeting for the first time Jesus, recognizes Him, and who He really is...Andrew, the disciple, and brother of Peter, recognized Jesus immediately as the Messiah...The first thing Andrew wanted to do, was share this information with his brother...When we find something of this importance, which makes us happy, we want to share things like this with the ones we love...When Andrew met Jesus, He wanted to share the information with His brother Peter...Andrew seemed to understand quickly who the Messiah was, that Daniel had written about...
What is interesting about Daniel's Story is that he has visions and dreams that were and are apocalyptic...Daniel's writings and apocalyptic type visions to me are unclear, but when he sees the Son of Man, when he sees Jesus (and writes about the Son of Man) -it is less about a vision and a real Man who will come down and save us from our sins and our troubles, and give us everlasting life...Daniel's story about the Son of Man would be written long before Jesus, the Twelve Disciples, and Andrew and Peter...Andrew (like his brother), once he has heard John the Baptist and sees the actual Man and hears Jesus, he is ready to tell his brother and the world about our Savior, who is Christ our LORD...
Jesus would fulfill Daniel's prophecy about Him...Jesus would teach Andrew that the Messiah is a Spiritual Leader, a Spiritual King and maybe not what everyone was quite expecting out of the Son of David...Jesus' reign and dominion would not pass away...And He will come again in His Second Advent...Jesus echoes much of what Daniel says about the Son of Man...The Son of Man will come on the clouds of heaven...When He returns His dominion would still be here, and even after that, His words will never pass away...He will rescue us from evil, and goodness will then rule the world...
