As the structural and geopolitical dynamics of my professional fields wrestle with increased instability, my leadership philosophy prioritizes understanding and carefully stewarding the groups, systems, and values at greatest risk in such phases.
Leaders who deliver most effectively in turbulence face themselves and their surroundings with authenticity, embrace followership to remain grounded in their values and goals, and navigate personal and systemic challenges with a willingness to adapt.
My teaching philosophy focuses on motivating students to learn – and to continue to learn – by connecting their educational experiences with the values they hold and the context within which their learning can be put into practice.
My value as an educator is defined not by the knowledge and skills that I can teach, but rather by the impact I can make on my learners to continue to strengthen themselves.
My goal is to steward the professions for which I teach by encouraging learners to keep growing and making positive changes in their fields long after they have finished their time with me
Valuing growth – of social, personal, and societal natures rather than of quantity – fosters a mindset in which equity can flourish. Connecting with the communities and dynamics around oneself and maintaining a mindset to try to strengthen or improve them creates an awareness of the structural and logistical gaps between the current state and the desired state.
Practicing my work through a framework of equity reminds me of the needs of those whom I have not met, the importance of the decisions I make, and the consequences of making consciously and unconsciously biased choices.
