The city of La Laguna has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.
It preserves a good example of typical Canarian architecture. La Laguna is one of the few flat cities, so strolling through its main streets (Calle La Carrera and Calle Herradores) is a real pleasure.
There are a large number of house museums which are free of charge and well worth a visit. While it is certainly one of the best places to go for tapas or snacks, if you want to enjoy the outside tarrazas, bring a jacket.
It is a very humid city and except for the summer months there is often a chill in the air. We recommend that if you are visiting this city, take the opportunity to stop at the viewpoints of Jardina and Cruz del Carmen, both on the TF-12 road.
Garachico is a small village in the north of the island. It is definitely a must if you go round the island. Weather permitting, you can enjoy its rocky coastal area, ideal for diving into the water in a single bound.
El Médano is a coastal town famous for its yellow sandy beaches and also for its wind. This beach is ideal to enjoy the most daring water sports.
Both the beach and the surrounding area are of great natural value. In fact, they are part of a Special Nature Reserve. Likewise, El Médano is a good place to take a stroll along the coast and enjoy the sea breeze.
The coastal and fishing town of Candelaria is home to the Basilica of Our Lady of Candelaria, the patron saint of the Canary Islands.
However, the most interesting thing is its history, as a cave behind the basilica tells the story of the Virgin and the Guanches (the ancient settlers and aborigines of Tenerife).
Candelaria is the perfect place to take a stroll and enjoy a refreshing drink and a snack on the promenade. In the fishermen's guild (next to the harbour) you can also taste the local fish.
The town of La Orotava has a perfect display of typical Canarian houses. So much so that it is home to the "Casa de los Balcones", a museum.
If you wish, you can visit the sweet shop "Casa Egón" in the old town. Its sweets and terrace are a delight.
