Halo! I am Daniela D. Alejaga, 22 years old and a 4th year college student at Capiz State University, Main Campus. I am a participant of 10th Batch of SEA-Teacher Exchange. Together with my three fellows Capsunians coming from different satellite colleges, we flew to Indonesia on January 27, 2025. Our host university in Indonesia was Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto, which is known for its academic excellence, Islamic values and international collaboration. Meanwhile, my cooperating school was SMP UMP (Islamic Global School) which has quality learning environment and modern technologies. Other books can be found in the library aside from Kurikulum Merdeka. For English, the school also use Cambridge University Press Books.
The school follows two Curriculum. For Grade 7, Merdeka Curriculum is used. For Grade 8, they implement the K13 Curriculum.
Merdeka Curriculum - It was introduced by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology. It aims to improve the quality of learning and to adapt to the students different learning needs. This curriculum encourages students to work on projects that will help them develop their critical thinking skills, student collaboration inside the classroom and problem solving.
K13 Curriculum - It existed before the Merdeka Curriculum which uses competency based learning. The main focus of this curriculum is to integrate knowledge, the skills and attitudes of the students to prepare them to the real world. The authentic assessments mainly used is through projects, observations and portfolios.
The difference between the two is that Merdeka Curriculum is Student-Centered Approach, while K13 Curriculum is Teacher-Centered Approach.
