On-Rails Adventure, Part of an Adventure Tour
University of Skövde for Karlsborg's FortressLevel designer, gameplay designer and editor tool programmer in Unity for "The Gold Rush", a kind of on-rails adventure experience which was part of a bigger adventure at Karlsborg's Fortress in Sweden.
I and two other developers were tasked with making the video game for this game room. We were technically employed by the University of Skövde. Part of development included contact with any university students who wanted to help with assets for the game.
I designed the levels and gameplay and our dedicated programmer did most of the code for the actual game. Apart from the gameplay and level design I also made Unity Editor tools that we used in development. One of the tools helped visualize animated actors in our game world so that we could easily see how fast they were moving and if they clipped through geometry. This was practical as it meant we didn't have to run the game every time we made changes. Another tool I made helped synchronize the movement of the actors feet based on their speed to prevent "skating".
Karlsborg's Fortress (Karlsborgs Fästning) has a guided adventure tour aimed at mainly kids and families. When they renewed their adventure tour a few years back they decided that one of the stops in the adventure would be a kind of game room.
The game revolved around two protagonists, a girl and a boy, trying to escape the grasp of some thieving general. Using a kind of 3D-controller (strings attached to sensors on the floor), step sensor and special dome shaped projector screens (jDome), the player would then put out fires, sneak around and grab gold from rats, "run" and inflict chaos inside an office.
