For instructors:
We have created this OER course for you to adopt and adapt to your students' needs.
The course is designed for a 15-week term that has students meet 2x per week, 75 minutes per class. You can adapt this in many ways, including doubling up the lessons to complete two in one day or eliminating/supplementing the materials that extend or shorten the term.
There are lesson materials for 25 class meetings, leaving room for 4 assessment classes and 1 class to present final projects. The lesson materials include class slides, suggested and optional readings and films, in-class embodied learning activities, in class discussion prompts, knowledge check quizzes, and more. I recommend including 4-5 class meetings that are fully dance based/embodied learning. These could include dances in an African tradition, folk dances of Europe or the Middle East, Renaissance or Baroque dances of the French Courts, a classical Indian dance form such as Bharatanatyam, and early African American vernacular dance. These can be adapted based on the experts you have in your networks or they can be expanded with online resources and tutorials from the Library of Congress.
There are also two larger assignments - A dance concert analysis written paper and a dance reconstruction project. Activities to support these assignments have been scaffolded into the readings and in class activities.
I have used a larger assessment at the end of each unit to track students pace with the course learning outcomes.
