This is a full dance history course created with the support of UMBC and the M.O.S.T (Maryland Open Source Textbook) Initiative. The course covers dance from Prehistory through the 19th century in many parts of the world. My aim is to create a course that does not have a Eurocentric focus. Instructors, administrators, and students can find all the materials they need to lead an introductory course in dance history: Sample Syllabus, assignment descriptions, lesson plans including slide decks, full reading lists, embodied learning activities, and a suggested schedule.
Establishing these materials as an Open Educational Resource is the culmination of years of adapting this course over more than 10 years to make it accessible, inclusive, relevant, non-Eurocentric, engaging, and FREE!
Statement of Accessibility and Inclusive Practices
Dance History materials have been created with intention and care in an attempt to include many kinds of teachers and learners. Course materials include alt text, high contrast on slides, and descriptions of assessments to support multiple means of representation.
