DSA Dance Concert Policy:
Attendance is MANDATORY for all dancers who are participating in the concert. All dancers should be seated in the auditorium by 3:30pm for tech and dress rehearsals. Roll call will promptly happen at 3:30pm (4:30pm for performance day). If a student is late or misses their name in roll call, it is a 10 point deduction per day from their concert grade. If a student misses tech or dress rehearsal without prior permission, a 20 point deduction per day will result. If a student misses the show, the student will receive a zero. Tech and dress rehearsal are of CRUCIAL importance for the success of any production.
If the student must miss rehearsal or performance, he/she must communicate well in advance with the instructor. If the student is an athlete, the DSA policy is athletes cannot miss dress rehearsal or performance for practice or game. Sickness, injury, and a death in the immediate family are excused absences. Outside studio conflicts and job conflicts are UNEXCUSED absences.
Students who do NOT maintain an A/B in class may be asked to do the alternate assignment instead of participating in the concert at the teacher’s discretion. In order to participate in the concert, the student must be attending class regularly because class time is used for rehearsal.
If the student is injured and is unable to participate in the concert, then he/she must complete an alternate assignment to get credit for the concert. The alternate assignment is a 10 page typed choreographer biography explaining how the person has influenced the dance world. MLA format, works cited page included. This assignment must be turned in by the day of the concert.
